I also study my butt off. I want proven, effective ways to increase one's brain power. So give me some nice of source of your information please. Thank you!

Resolved Question: Does anyone have an answer? ( I am being serious )?

I was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx in its final stages in April 2000. I was by mistake given twice the amount of radiation a human can take in his lifetime, I then had to have a tracheostomy as I had refused the removal of my voice box. I then landed up with Peritonites which almost killed me. I then had a major fungal infection behing my brains at my nape of the neck - another life taking threat. I then began bleeding non cease from my mouth, nose, throat and the doctors got my family together for last good byes. I always bounced back. I as on date breathe through a hole in my throat called a "stoma" and have not even had a sip of water in the last six years as both the food and air passages have closed down. I feed through a tube inserted in my stomach called a "peg". I am a fitness freak and work out for an hour everyday and run a good 4 km. Can anyone try and explain why am I still alive? I mantain my health, am physically fit and work normally and do not feel handicaped.

Resolved Question: Why do people care so much about sports?

In the name of today's Super Bowl, I was wondering why the world puts so much into sports. Shouldn't we only be rewarding raw brain power--in other words reward those who really solve our world's important problems. I take particular offence because I went to high school with inferior students. I was close the top of my class. Some of those inferior students with football, golf, soccer, swimming, etc skills got full ride scholarships to better schools than I did. Then they went on to receive better jobs than I did because of their sports fame and school brand. So I guess if you can toss a foot ball well and graduated from USC, and carry a ring from winning a big game on January 1st, you are really qualified to be a senior VP of a fortune 500 company? I feel if you want to toss a ball around or run or swim, fine, but should we be putting such value on it...when it solves none of life's important issues other than general physical fitness (which I do believe we should promote). I make the best of big game days. I can at least catch a buzz on a few beers and socialize...but that's every I receive out of it...1/2 the time I don't even know who's playing. I manage some accounts with big companies. A long time ago someone told me to always glance at the paper and become familiar with the big ideas in sports that week. It works...people really value sports...knowing a little and asking people's opinions about it is a great way to make sales or remove obsticals...but why is it so valued and important to people. I'd rather talk about what percentage chance we have of finding Alien life in 20 years.

Voting Question: Brain fitness... I need some help.?

I believe myself to be a pretty intellectual guy, I read about parasites in my spare time, I'm learning French, and Physics; for fun. Recently I picked up a book on brain teasers - to increase IQ, and I'm having a really difficult time with it. I'm curious if there are any mental exersizes to reduce the anxiety and stress that I feel from these little buggers; an influence that is damn impossible to focus on these crazy shapes, and ridiculous designs. It clouds my mind, and it's unable to do anything, when my goal was not to regress mental health, but to improve it. So... What can I do beforehand or during that will make this easier to handle...? I really don't understand why these would make me feel this way, but not anything else that my brain is doing. I can't for the life of me figure out why these problems are creating such a difficulty to think clearly while focusing on the shapes at hand.

Resolved Question: Should I go into amateur boxing?

I've been doing boxing fitness classes for several years now and some light sparring, but I want to compete. I'd like to participate in a couple amateur boxing matches, but worried about brain injury. How dangerous is boxing with head guard? Should I be concerned?

Resolved Question: How is it possible that humans are the only intelligent (self-aware) species?

Many people talk about evolution in terms of was Darwin right or wrong. I'm assuming here that evolution is correct. My question is: Human intelligence evolved in or around a million years ago (assuming we are starting with Australopithecus Africanus). So if we assume humans went from grassland dwelling primates to flying to the moon in a million years and life on earth has been around for 3.5 Billion years, how is it possible that humans are the only ones that have become self-aware and created vast civilizations? There are many evolutionary traits which give a species a higher Darwinian fitness level. But the big brain (as demonstrated by us, i.e. humans) is pretty successful. So how is it in the millions of times of millions of years that only humans seem to have accomplished this feat? I don't want to further creationist ideas (I'm an agnostic) but this is serious question. It seems to me that in the oceans and the lands of prehistoric earth, over the billions of years of evolution there would have been a species that would have preceded Australopithecus Africanus' footsteps. A dinosaur or reptile or fish or bird that would have gained an evolutionary advantage through social and individual intelligence. Dinosaurs lived for 160 million years on earth. That's more than 120 thousand times the evolutionary lifespans of humans. How in 120 times did not one of these upright walking, omnivorous creatures ever evolve around the big brain system? This post is not intended to give weight to the creationists. So don't bother with the "cause God wanted it" argument. But for biologists: if evolution is based on the idea that "given enough time and enough mutations then the best evolutionary survival technique will prevail" then please help me understand how 35,000 one million year intervals have gone by without any other species stumbling upon the big brain evolutionary process? Especially given that other more expensive traits, such as flight, size, camouflage, etc... has proliferated. It seems to me that an omnivorous, upright walking dinosaur should have had the same chances of developing a big brain as humans, considering the how much time evolution had to work on them before their extinction. Yet we find no archaeological evidence of a species that could create villages, let alone cities. I've taken into account that time would eradicate most of the evidence of our existence, but surly New York and Los Angeles will leave archaeological evidence behind 60 million years in the future. That much steal, iron, wood and housing would leave a footprint hundreds of millions in the future. I'm not suggesting that there's a hidden dinosaur LA or NY somewhere, but rather that there's no suggestion that any species ever developed any sort of self awareness, let alone any written language or advanced civilization. So the question remains: How given the number of evolutionary cycles it requires to develop intelligence (in our case around a million years), plus given the total number of evolutionary cycle we've had (given life has existed for 3.5 billion years) has it been that humans have been the only species that has adopted the big brain evolutionary standard? Now, given that dolphins, whales, chimps and elephants every seem to have a notion of self-awareness. And that a notion of self-awareness would, over a period of many thousands of years, seem to guide to a level of human intelligence, I can't understand how we're the only species that is self aware and able to develop advanced technology. Once again, not for Creationists (if no one can answer then you can say "look I told you") but for biologists. Help me understand why intelligence is so unique to humans in the environmental spectrum. Thanks,

Voting Question: Slurred Speech during and after sport - is this OK or not?

Recently being doing quite a lot of cycling here in the European winter. I found, on several occasions difficulty in getting my words out with fellow riders. Today my wife picked me up part way round the course after my tyre burst and asked me twice had I been drinking which was not the case. I had already been stopped for around 30 mins and was walking towards home. Other than that no other issues that I have noticed like loss of co-ordination etc.during exercise and in the past the symptoms have worn off fairly quickly. I have been quite sleepy after some of the rides but then we are 50 and are a few weeks into a training program designed to improve our cycling fitness and techniques. When resting after exercise I do receive light headed on occasion when staning up quickly. My interpretation is that the body is using more oxygen than normal to power muscles and cutting back on what is going to the brain - I am however not feeling breathless during such exercise. Any medics out there who can advise would be appreciated.

Resolved Question: Do i have bad genetics?

Ive just had some guy online telling me i have bad genetics, i have a needy jawline, so a big overbite being fixed by braces, i have skinny arms cant even fill out a tiny t shirt, im average height, average weight, average brains etc these are true, and my brother always says are genetics are not great and as a joke says we should be mixed race lol i never made it far in sport physically because i was not built as well toned as a sportsman should be although my skill in sports was always way over average. So on a positive side for my genetics i have way way way over average stamina, i had a firefighter praise me on a fitness test at my school once, my penis is 6.5 to 7 inches so thats pretty good lol physically in sports i was not able to move opponents often but for my average size and heart i was way over what you would think, physical power i behold in proportion to my average body is top class, in playfights i used to always be able to toss people almost double my size to the ground by using their weight against them and using my possess strength, my legs are average but pretty well toned from years of being a skilled footballer(soccerplayer) but like i said my jawline is non existant, i have a big nose, big head, but skinny puney body, do some people have better genetics in certain areas than others? do you think i have bad genetics?

Resolved Question: Fitness, Nutrition, Vegan/Vegetarian?

I am not a vegan/vegetarian, but I am a fitness junkie and I'm trying to educate myself and read up on proteins, nutrition, vitamins, nutrients, amino acids, etc. Stuff that our body needs, either some of, or more of, or stuff we don' receive at every. Also I am a health nut as well and I have seriously been thinking about trying vegan/vegetarian but I am new to it and in the dark. Will it make it harder, or easier on my body as far as fitness goes? I read today in an October 2010 edition of Men's Journal that it will help your body build stronger muscle, and quicken brain activity over time, and the plant proteins are better than that of animal proteins. Okay...Well what goes into a Vegan diet? Is there an effecient one? As in effecient on the wallet? since most of the stuff I eat, contains butter, or eggs, and I'm told vegans don't eat those, but I don't eat much meat. I eat mainly bread, pastas, soups, fruits, and veggies. The only meat I eat really is lean baked chicken or some fish. I also have liquid supplements sometimes such as protein powder and amino acids. Help/advice/thoughts? My general question to shorten this up is, fitness and nutrition, bodybuilding, vegan/vegetarian vs what I'm doing now, benefits, loss, gain, pros, cons, etc. Thanks! @Tom Yeah I am new and like I said I'm still trying to read up and educate myself. I just decided I would toss this question out here after reading a bit of that article to find out more on this.

Resolved Question: How to say goodbye to binging for good?

I shamefully binge...it used to be a rare occurence, but lately it's been happening tri-weekly+ and I find yahoo answers a great approach to ask as it is more "annonymous." I don't know what to do.....I simply cannot say no. And for whatever reason it tends to happen more at night. (I know what you're probably thinking - boredom, which is not the case) It would be great to hear from a past-binger. As it stands right now, this eating disorder is taking over me. I'll start to eat something unhealthy, and for some reason I make the connection in my brain that I already messed up my diet for that day so I might as well keep overeating. I don't know why, but I'm guessing it's the former Anorexic part of me. I'm just so conflicted...as it stands right now, I have little support from "friends" or my parents. They will not take me to receive help...and I'm SO sleepy of obsessing over weight and food. I want a life other than calorie-counting, weigh-ins, and comparing my skinnyness to other girls. It's a very pointless life...I want to be a fitness trainer one day, and I've pretty much let go of the anorexic thing. Now it's the binge issue.....how can I tell people to overeat if I'M doing it?! Please no judgement if that's at every possible. It's easy to say "cease eating", but a compulsive person such as myself doesn't necessarily always hear to reason and common sense. Any tips, tricks, and hints would be wonderful. Thank you so much to anyone who helps!! It is so greatly appreciated and I'll do my best to pick a top answer quickly.

Resolved Question: Once every month or two it feels as if something popped by my brain (hard to explain). What is wrong with me?

Once every couple of months, I receive this weird feeling by my brain. More information about what may be causing this: -I was born with Hydrocephalus (removed when I was still a new born) -I have a lot of stress in my life (~2 jobs (sales associate and online fitness coach) and stress from my family (too personal to talk about)) Has anyone experienced this weird feeling by the brain (feels as if something "popped")? If have experienced this, what were you diagnosed with? This is very personal, so I would really appreciate it if someone (doctor, nurse or someone who has experienced this in the past) were to help me by email. My email is bari21e@yahoo.com. I received an MRI on my brain about 13 years ago and, if I remember correctly, the radiologist did not find any serious problems. Please help me. I will give you 10 points if you give me an answer (using Yahoo! Answers) and help me by email. In my case, it also "pops" in the back/ side, but it does not feel "warm". However, I end up feeling discomfort on the side of my neck sometimes (for about 5-20 seconds).

Resolved Question: how to know which vitamins to trust?

I just got done reading two articles. One was about Omega 3 and 6. They are now saying that it's not good for you. Well I've read articles on it before but it's part of the news again. And I know it's tardy my brain wants to think of million questions every at once so rather write it down and ask while still in thought. Too much fat. Although we need a balanced amount of fat in our bodies but my question is how do I know which vitamins to trust anymore? It's not just omega that's popped up about different kinds of vitamins, diet pills, over the counter medicines. it was approved through the fda. What other choices are there then to trust the fda and their approval on certain pills. I'm not interested in taking Omega but I do have interest in taking green tea pills. Right now undecided. Diet pills, I've arrive close to making decisions trying them but I hesitated and didn't bother with it and I'm glad I didn't. It's nerve wrecking to think you become so convinced that a pill can make a difference and fix one of many problems. Should this be a wake up call for people. I know I'm jumping from omega to diet pills. Just bear with me please. Back 2008 there was an article about recall on diet pills. I linked it. FDA Seeks Recall Of 25 Weight Loss Pills With Potentially Unsafe Ingredients http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/sections/fitness-obesity/ I was in the drug store the other day looking at every different types of healthy beneficial vitamins and just wondering which one's are actually providing the right nutrients for the body and I want to focus on the prize difference.$15 to $30 or up. Are the vitamins that cost more healthier for you or would you buy over the counter vitamins but it has been said that those cheap vitamins could be toxic to the body. It is important to replace the missing nutrients that we miss out on because we can't fit it every in three meals a day but for now Omega 3 & 6 still on the selves for now. Will it be there in 6 months or year from now. Should it continue to sell in markets n groceries stores? IDK? Anyone here take Omega or multivitamins or separate vitamins. Where they prescribed by your doctor? I've taken nature made vitamin c and also did multivitamin. The multivitamin I finished half of the bottle but I had to discontinue. I would become really nausea after I take it sometimes even after I ate something then I take the pill and I have worst indigestion. Last for short time but I couldn't do it anymore. I was sick of that feeling. Still searching for something different.

Resolved Question: What is the thesis of this paper?

“Have a Good Night” by Robert L. Grath snooze. Everyone does it, yet no one understands it. You can even do without it for limited periods with no serious effects, provided you receive back to normal within a reasonable time. You spend, on average, one third of your life asleep—time that’s a fundamental part of who you are, how you feel, and what you do. That makes it worth thinking about. snooze is an altered state of consciousness, a recurring state of inactivity with consequent decrease in responsiveness to events in one’s environment. Like eating and breathing, it’s a natural mind-body function, the foundation of your health, fitness and well being. The long-held belief that you need at least eight hours of snooze per night has been proved incorrect. Actual requirements vary with each individual. Some people need nine hours of snooze; others receive by nicely on six. The average for most people is about seven and a half hours. There are two distinct types of relax: active and silent. Researchers identify active snooze as rapid eye movement (REM), wherein movements of the eyeballs beneath closed lids accompany more intense activity in the brain than during silent snooze. The latter consists of several stages, every categorized as non-REM, or NREM snooze.

Know, too, that as your life progresses, your sleeping habits will probably change. As you grow older, you’ll need less total snooze-time, much less deep NREM snooze, a little less REM snooze, and you’ll experience more waking periods during the night. Because the snooze mechanism is totally integrated with every other function and activity of body and mind, such changes are to be expected; they should not be a source of worry. What about that old bugaboo, insomnia? There is seldom a single identifiable cause. It may be physical—pain from heart disease, arthritis, backache, diabetes, or hypertension. It may be psychological—emotional stress, anxiety, depression. And it may be behavioral—needy lifestyle habits such as overeating, faulty nutrition, failure to exercise, irregular times for going to bed and arising. Or there may be overlapping of any or every of these elements.

Resolved Question: How can i lose weight without feeling as if i want to give up or feeling as it is not worth my time?

Hey, i'm 18 years old and i weigh 95-100 kg, for the past 4-5 years i have weighed no less then 85kg and have shifted from size 16-20, even as a child i was obese. I'm starting to realize how bad this is for me and i really want to lose the weight. I tried at one point only eating 1 meal a day but that did not do well for me as this meal was either very unhealthy or some days i would end up having 3 meals to fill the hunger. When i try to do diets, it feels as if my brain goes into a different gear as if i was trying to kill myself because the day before i decide to start my diet i just stuff myself. i have been to a dietitian and that did not go well for me as i did not have the proper attitude. I have a few health problems like asthma, back problems but other than that i,m fine. mentally i'm not in the right state when it comes to losing weight. iv realized that when i try to do some nice of fitness plan i just give up because i might feel stupid or i don't look any results. I'm trying out Turbo flame, but i felt like giving up within the first 5 Min's. even though i try to think positive, as in trying to lose the weight, it just is not enough for me. I can eat healthy but i have no support at home because my mom only cooks junk at times or has chocolate round the home and i just cant help myself. my dad does not help either because he always brings/buys some nice of fatty treat and because i.m so weak willed i would eat it.Iv watched fitness shows and how people have changed there lives before with different things and i have tried most things out there, but realized it just wasn't for me. I have tried sports that i like as well, such as swimming for 2 years, ( did not turn out very well as i started out strong foe the first 2-3weeks but slowly got more lazy as i found it boring because it was for exercise. i tried badminton and i a currently doing rock climbing 1Ce a week. i know this is doing nothing for me. Then about 3 months ago i went to this chiropractor and he mentioned something that got me thinking maybe it was not my laziness that was keeping me from losing weight but it had something to with my nerves in the body. But i don't want to blame it on anything or anyone anymore and just go for it and have the strength to lose the weight and receive more healthy. I have done diets in the past, when i was younger as my mom would try to control what and how i eat but that of cores did not work out as i would take money to school and bought bags and bags of junk foods. As i said before, now i don't receive any support and only criticism. This of cores brings me down and gets me into depression. I hate looking into the mirror and feeling as if i'm going to explode. Or one day i will be so big i would pass the size of the mirror and not be able to look myself fully or not look my feet. My biggest problem as my legs as the look as if they could be the size of a normal healthy person. I really need help and i really need advice. My wish is running out as dramatic as it might sound, i know i wont lose the weight every at once but i just want something that sounds reasonable and that i could possibly do. Please i could really use the help and any advice is welcome. Thank you for your help and i am so sorry for how much i have typed out. i thought it might help receive a picture. i know there are people who are much worse than me. i'm just sleepy of being the fat girl that even my possess mom criticizes how i look but does not help me anymore because, i think in her possess mind i'm a lost cause now. I don't want to carry on like this and die at a young age because of something that being obese could do to you. Thank you for any help you might provide. PS. If your going to say something nasty to me please keep it to yourself or i will flag you and report you. If your not interested why did you read it in the first place, to receive a good giggle? well this is not a laughing matter as hundreds of people die because they are overweight. or they kill themselves because of depression. so please as "pathetic" as you might think i am, it is quite emotional for me and any other person that has ever been and felt this way. And please don't give me short answers like " move more, eat less" iv herd it before and you know what, It does not work! we as humans receive hungry and eat and also receive comfortable and just don't want to move. That is just how most of the world has been raised. and it is such a bad habit to kill. But i really do want to try and kill it. i just don't know how. Thank you xx

Computerized testing of athletes for concussion isn't a reliable gauge of their brain health or fitness to return to play, according to new research. The computerized tests are used in the NFL and NHL, and in many colleges and high schools.

Voting Question: A question about fitness...I need exercises that don't put pressure on my brain!?

I am an 18 year old female, usually 125-ish lbs, but currently 140-ish lbs. I usually run 3+ miles a day and work out with various other machines in the gym for 45 minutes. Since a week before Thanksgiving, my neurologist told me that I needed to cease doing any exercises that put pressure on my head or jostled my head at every because I have a malignant tumor that bleeds that I'm scheduled to have removed on December 10th. After the surgery, I cannot do any of these head-pressure exercises for about a month. My problem is that I keep gaining weight and I have a wedding to attend on December 31st where I have to fit into my size 5 dress!! I'd like to receive back down to my regular weight of 125, but I don't know what exercises I can do that will not build up pressure on my brain. I'm a vegetarian and I have a very healthy diet, so that is not the issue. I'd just like some good exercises that WORK and give GOOD RESULTS so I can fit into my maid of honor dress...as well as every of my other clothes! C'mon every you exercise gurus out there! Help a girl out!

Resolved Question: How would you treat a beloved friend's severe headaches?

My girlfriend's head hurts so much that the intense pain is into the core of her brain..and it feels like a storm running on a rampage in her head..it gets worse and sometimes better but much worse later. She also faces constant nosebleeds and is a MIGRAINE victim.. I cant do anything besides to comfort her by giving her Ice..and cheering her up by saying positive things and patting her back as friendly as much as possible..! The doctors in my country, Bangladesh, cant do zip for her..I know this cause they are greedy idiots who bribe for money and every of them..be it any hospital..are always giving the same excuse of her problem and give pain-relievers..pain killers which are of no use and no help for my girlfriend's condition.. I noticed she gets sleepy quick..and faces depression (probably because every of this..) and I also recall her saying she skips breakfasts cause she doesnt feel like eating in the morning and comes to school and then gets hungry pretty quick. I tell her to eat right..take breakfast but she resists the beneficial advices just because she doesnt feel like doing them. Whats wrong with her?..The only way she feels better is when I assert myself to insist her on eating my lunch. I even force her to drink water to help her prevent possible headaches from dehydration. I am a complete opposite to her..I am a fitness-Health-freak which is good..but I do my best to make sure shes alright. What do you guys suggest? We are in our young adulthood years. Sometimes she resists every her friends including me and sit at the corner of a room to have a personal time. I understand her pain and her friends would just go over to her and try comforting her but I thought its not right to bother her as she really feels sick on the head. So instead I would only go to her when we're alone in the room or with very few people and have a friendly chat..and I would again keep away silently if I think I am bothering her. I wish I dont annoy her at every so I watch my boundaries..unlike her friends who always go over to her as a group and do their part of cheering. I am just a guy giving the girl time & space though. &Shes not really my girlfriend. Just a classmate..but I adore her lol, she tries not to adore me but im always nice :) ...Her thank yous never cease whenever im around..wish she'll accept me one day! ^_^

Voting Question: Help with brain "cyst"?

For several months now I've been doing a pretty rigorous fitness routine involving push-ups (about 65 of them when I stopped) but about 3 weeks ago I began getting intense headaches in the back of my head during push-ups and I soon had to cease almost every exercise. I went to the doctor, got an MRI and he found 2 "cysts" in the back of my brain, the larger being just over 6cm in diameter. He said it's quite normal, though the big size is unusual. I asked if it could be a tumor and he said it is unlikely. I now receive intense headaches from most exercises, and even drawn out throbbing ones without it. Also I've noticed that I've been forgetting things by the dozens and sometimes I just feel.... IDK out of it. I'm nice of concerned of how my brain could function with something that big just sitting in it. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing, and what exactly is this nice of "cyst"?

Resolved Question: Plain, straight info on joining Australian Army needed?

Hey guys, I want to join the Australia Army as soon as I can and I find the recruiting website to be fiddly so I want some nice straight answers. 1. How old do you have to be to ACTUALLY JOIN? Is it 16.5 or 17? 2. How old do you have to be to ACTUALLY battle? 3. I want to just be the normal ground guy in the army, as in I receive the orders, do good at them and move up a level. Do good there, move up another level. Same again, same again until my times up or I reach the top. What is the name of the position I just described? Rifleman or something? 4. What do I need to do to successfully receive this position? 4.5. Very brief outline of recruitment process would be nice. 5. Are there any links to an ADF site that tells me every this, if you think its really obvious 6. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here; is there a better position in the army for a English-Fitness enthusiast who has a bit more than half a brain and isn't afraid to battle? Thanks for any answers, they are every very much appreciated. P.S: I don't really want to be in Public relations or hospitality or something like this - I actually want to battle. Also, yes it has to be army and no I am not interested in flying copters. Tanks would be chilly, so if you can slip it in could you tell us what position it is that drives the tanks. Cheers.

Resolved Question: when drowning how long is it from last breath to your last heart beat and then how long til total brain death?

(I'm not going to do the following it's just a hypothetical that I think best illustrates what I'm asking) if you where to take a young man (of relatively good health and fitness with no breathing problems) and tied his feet to a slab of concrete and then drooped the man and slab in to the deep end of a swimming pool (about 3 meters deep) how long would it take for him for his heart beat to take place and then how long would it take for total brain dearth after that? P.S I chose that hypothetical over a less.... homicidal on as every the others I could think of involved very icy water or a struggler before the man went below, and as I did not want temperature or fatigue to be a factor I didn't use use any of them, I wonted it to be a man to goes from breathing comfortably to below water

Resolved Question: Qualities of alpha male and female, etc?

Ok for fun, im just wondering what are every the possible qualities of the alpha male and the alpha female. What exactly makes them this way and why are they the "most wanted". What does it take to be an alpha? Im talking personality, looks, brains, charm, etc. the WHOLE package! Also do alphas ever fall for each other or receive with each other even though practically everyone else is trying to snag them for themselves? What do betas and omegas look like, act like, etc. as well? Is it possible for betas or omegas to ever become alphas or have those traits? What is the purpose of going after an alpha and the accomplishment of getting to be with one? Just to clarify im talking about people not like wolves or anything lol! Examples: Alpha male: would be so confident to the point of being cocky if it weren't for that little boyish charm, good grin, nice abs/muscle tone, smart, aggressive, go-getter, nice eyes, tall, good in bed, takes care of himself financially, sneaky, popular, tons of friends, does not let rejection (if any) receive to him he moves on easily, strong, etc. Alpha female: knows herself and loves herself, puts herself before anyone, smart, be up in the gym be workin on her fitness, sexually confident, charming, blunt/doesn't take shit from anyone especially a guy, manipulative, is financially stable as well, popular, does not need a man to make her glad or to adore her she loves herself, she is not desperate or clingy/needy, successful, can hold her possess, has inner strength, etc.

Resolved Question: I want to work in Drug Enforcement/Counseling. Where do I start? Grad School, Military, Reserve, Coast Guard?

My name is Jeremiah... I am a twenty-five year old husband and dad (professionally I am a Grocery store shift manager). I have a degree in Broadcast Communications... but once I got working in the field as a P/A I found that I really didn't have a zest for the work (I originally wanted to be a investigative reporter). My brother is a Police officer... he loves his job. I like my job (and the people I work with), it pays well but have recently found myself coming to the realization that I have NO PASSION FOR WHAT I DO... it allows me to support my family, but leaves me zero satisfaction other than that. I am very bright... graduated Summa Cumme Laude... 3.96... got one B out of 40 something classes. My instructors always told me that I should've been a Biosci or engineering major (brain heavy). I'm veering of topic... basically I've spent the last two years trying to find out what I'm passionate about. TODAY... IT STRUCK ME!!! I HATE DRUGS/ADDICTION... I have watched several family members succumb to them. Siblings in and out of jail... ruining their marriages and leaving kids in the wake. Since I was a teen I watched parents paying to try and receive them clean. I have so many times fought with my addict siblings because I tried to help but didn't know how. Even my wife was a "pothead" when I met her... I told her that I couldn't be with her because I hated being around "the scene" because it just doesn't take your life anywhere good. She quit... and never regrets it and I adore her for it. You name a drug; alcohol, pain killers, cocaine, marijauna, meth... and I've seen a someone battle it wishing for a better way. I want to help the drug problem somehow.. I want to help people receive clean... I want to find the people how are selling the drugs to kids and cease them before they start using. Drug enforcement... addiction counseling... I've been told the way to your greatest success is to follow your passion. There is no greater passion I have than my belief that NO DRUG IS A GOOD THING... even weed... unprescribed pain killers... every these things do is limit peoples potential and take them further away from themselves. Then it takes money from the pockets of people with families to support and honest lives to live, into the pockets of criminals feeding on peoples addictions/pains. Where do I start to receive into this field... go back to school and receive A.A. in criminal justice... or should I join the Local Air Force reserve and have that pay for a Master's Degree administration of justice... or psychology. My brother suggested I join the Army as a Commisioned Officer with my degree... but will that do more toward getting me into the battle where my heart lies. Should I volunteer at a Police Station... go to police academy. Someone suggested joining the Coast Gaurd as they have many big scale Drug Enforcement operations in different parts of the country (Miami, San Diego, New York), and with my degree, fitness and motivation I would probably stand a decent chance at getting into the field in that vein. I also have a family to support mind you... but this is something that in my heart I have to do. I thank you for reading... any advice helps... good luck at finding your way in life... God Bless, Jeremiah

Voting Question: How did this situation happen?

After 5 years I reconnected with my ex. We are strictly friends now. He is a great guy as a pal but a horrible boyfriend because of his immaturity. Anyway, when we dated back then I hated his best pal and he hated me. His best pal was always trying to sabotage the relationship. We were constantly at odds. But after 5 years I was over it. One day I asked my ex about his pal just to look how he's doing. Well long story short I got his best pal's number and now we talk constantly. So as you can guess we're so into each other. I want him bad and he wants me. We have soooo much in common, not to mention he's hot as heck. I'm a personal trainer and fitness is my passion and he is passionate about fitness too. I am confused though because we hated each other immensely and now we're crazy about each other. I know you guys aren't therapists or anything but pick apart my brain for a moment. Do you think the reason we hated each other because there was always sexual tension?

Resolved Question: Doctors, medically qualified folk, your help please?

I'm looking for a serious, considered answer, ideally from medical doctors, or other suitably qualified medical professionals, such as perhaps neuroscientists or physiotherapists. I realize this may be an unusual and even difficult question, but please bear with me, as I am in a very troubled state. WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS THIS: CAN I CONDITION MY BODY (& EVEN MY MIND) TO BETTER WITHSTAND BLOWS TO THE HEAD? Last week I was assaulted, but fortunately managed to escape without being hurt. But it immediately reminded me of a powerful, long-standing fear of mine, one which - along with the OCD which made me leave in the 1st place - has stopped me returning to martial arts training: I am terrified of blows to the head. Since beginning martial arts aged 15 (I'm 40 now), I have arrive across MANY stories of people who have been killed by blows to the head: boxer Barry McGuigan accidentally killed an opponent, a 23 yr. old kickboxer who entered his 1st competition was killed the 1st headpunch, a schoolboy killed by another after 2 headpunches, and the man killed by 1 headpunch from Karate champ Alfie Lewis, who was defending himself from 4 vandals attacking his car while he was in it. So my fear is not entirely groundless. I AM AWARE however, that there are people in the martial arts world, who believe that it is possible to REDUCE the effect of blows to the head, BY STRENGTHENING THE MUSCLES OF THE NECK, e.g. Larry Hartsell (JKD). American Karateka Joe Lewis believes you can train to overcome a glass jaw, but I don't know how. The idea is that stronger neck muscles will carry the force of the blow down into the body, away from the brain, much like a lightning conductor does with lightning. I guess also that strong necks cease the head from being jolted so violently by the blow, reducing its concussive effects on the brain. And in New Scientist's "Last Word", 1 scientist who answered "What happens when I am knocked out?" said that if your jaw is open when you are struck on it, it will carry the forces round to the base of the brain, knocking you out; whereas if your jaw were closed, the forces are more likely to dissipate through the skull, reducing your chances of being knocked out. I myself also imagine that a high level of aerobic fitness would better supply my brain with oxygen, making me more likely to better recover from a blow to the head, if not better withstand it in the 1st place. LET'S BE CLEAR - I'M NOT expecting a magic solution here; I DON'T believe I can ever become impervious to every impacts to the head. BUT I DO KNOW that some people (Muhammed Ali ?) seem better able to withstand blows to the head than others, or at least they seem harder to knock out, although I know that every blows to the head WILL cause damage to brain, however tiny, so that over time they can still have a cumulative effect which may be catastrophic. NOR DO I INTEND to run around exposing my head to every sorts of dangers even if there is a solution to this. So is there anything I can do by way of training and conditioning which may offer better protection to my brain? I mentioned the neck-strengthening theory to my doctor today, and he said it's nonsense. What have you to say on this? Like I said, I'm not about to strengthen my neck then receive into fights or do motorbike stunts, but at least I maybe won't have to worry so much about being mugged, or speaking up for myself (a BIG problem for me) in case the other person loses it and kills me. I've let fear cripple me for 40 years, and I hate it. Eleanor, I live in Scotland in the UK. Where would I look for such a gum-shield? Can you recommend any brand names? So far these are every GREAT answers (apart from that "Yep" person; why?), better even than in the medical section, where I expected good things, so well done every! JUST TO CLARIFY A POINT, it IS and has ALWAYS BEEN, my utmost desire to AVOID blows to the head! I would say that this, more than any other specific technical goal, is the most important thing for me in martial arts training. If I had my way, I'd be impossible to hit anywhere on the body; and I'll always try to receive as close to that as I can. But as I'm not that good yet, I'm simply trying to cover every my bases, which I think you would appreciate is a SERIOUS concern for me when you consider that I was assaulted last week. So thanks again to every who have written so far.
